ITINERARY

Day 1: Transfer to Wanseko & Start of the Blue Nile Trails

Your journey begins with a transfer to Wanseko, a lakeside town near Lake Albert. From here, you will cross the lake by ferry or motorboat, enjoying beautiful views of the water, fishing communities and surrounding escarpments.

After crossing, the adventure continues toward Got Panyimur, where the Blue Nile Trails experience begins. This area introduces you to the landscapes, people and stories that shape the region.

Day 2: Ride to Parombo & Cultural Storytelling

After breakfast, begin your ride toward Parombo. The trail takes you through rural landscapes, local homesteads, farms and scenic viewpoints.

In Parombo, you will meet a local storyteller who shares the ancient story of Gipir and Labongo, two brothers whose separation shaped the movement and identity of several Luo-speaking communities in East Africa.

Day 3: Parombo – Erusi Highlands

After breakfast, continue toward Erusi. This section of the trail rises from lowland areas into the cooler highlands, offering sweeping views of the Nile Valley and surrounding countryside.

In Erusi, you will learn about local life, farming traditions and the role of coffee in the community.

Day 4: Erusi – Ukuru Coffee Region

Today, continue deeper into the West Nile highlands toward Ukuru, one of the coffee-growing areas of the region. The landscape is green, fertile and rich with local farming activity.

You will visit coffee farmers and learn about the farm-to-cup process, including picking, washing, drying and brewing. This is a great day for travellers interested in culture, agriculture and authentic local experiences.

Day 5: Trek to Got Aminzi Sacred Mountain

After breakfast, begin your trek toward Got Aminzi, a sacred mountain with deep cultural meaning in the West Nile region. The mountain is linked to traditional beliefs, ancestral stories and local spiritual history.

You will explore the area with a local guide and learn about its caves, cultural importance and the stories that have been passed down through generations.

Day 6: Descend Toward Rhino Camp & Continue to Nebbi

Today, descend from the highlands toward Rhino Camp, an area with important historical and conservation value. The route offers beautiful views, changing landscapes and a deeper look into the communities of the region.

Later, continue to Nebbi Town, a key centre of Alur culture. Depending on time, you may visit local landmarks and learn more about the traditions of the area.

Day 7: Rhino Camp Experience

Spend the day around Rhino Camp, learning about community conservation, local history and the area’s connection to wildlife. This day gives you time to slow down, interact with local people and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

In the evening, enjoy a guided walking experience around the area, depending on conditions and local arrangements.

Day 8: Ride to Pakwach

After breakfast, continue toward Pakwach, a historic town along the Nile River. The trail follows scenic routes with views of the river, local markets, fishing communities and the Rift Valley escarpments.

Pakwach is known for its cultural energy, riverside life and its connection to the 2013 total solar eclipse. You will explore the area and learn about its history, art, crafts and local traditions.

Day 9: Pakwach – Kabalega Falls / Murchison Falls

Today, travel to Kabalega Falls, also known as Murchison Falls, one of Uganda’s most powerful natural wonders. Enjoy a boat trip to the base of the falls, where the Nile forces its way through a narrow gorge.

You will also take a walk to the top of the falls for dramatic views and photography. This is one of the most memorable parts of the journey.

Day 10: Morning Game Drive & Return to Entebbe

Start the day with a morning game drive in Murchison Falls National Park. You may spot giraffes, buffaloes, elephants, antelopes, lions and a variety of bird species.

After the game drive, begin the journey back to Entebbe, marking the end of your Blue Nile Trails adventure.
